Caring for your remedies
Shelf life, labeling and storage so nothing goes to waste.
Label everything, always
Every container gets: the herb or blend, the prep type, the date made. Memory is unreliable — labels aren't.
Use the right containers
Dark glass (amber or cobalt) blocks light degradation for oils and tinctures. Wide-mouth jars for dried herbs. Avoid plastic for alcohol-based preps.
Store away from heat and light
A cool, dark cupboard is the remedy's best friend. Not above the stove. Not on a sunny windowsill.
Know your shelf life
Dried herbs: 1–2 years. Infused oils: 6–12 months. Tinctures: 3–5 years. Salves: 1–2 years. When in doubt, smell it.
Check before using
Before using anything stored a while, smell it. Look for mould, unusual colour, or cloudiness in oils. If something seems off, discard it.
Rotate your stock
Use older preparations first and make small regular batches rather than one large annual project.
